There aren’t many choices for Chinese food lovers in Blaine so they’ll be glad that the Ocean Bay Restaurant is here. You’ll find the traditional Chinese fare including all the favorites of soup, beef, pork, egg foo young, vegetables, rice and noodle dishes. There might even be some interesting variations with seafood that’ll tempt you and show that the restaurant intends on living up to its name.

In addition to plenty of combination plates and lunch specials, one item not found on the menu but frequently offered is dim sum. Those who enjoy this special Chinese treat won’t be able to enjoy the sport of waylaying servers wheeling their food carts through the restaurant but the dim sum plate does a credible job of providing some of the classics that you’d expect. If you don’t see a sign advertising it you can always ask, they might just be able to make up one or two more servings for you.

Next to the dining room is a small banquet area perfect for small family or group gatherings. If you can’t manage a meal without watching sports, you’re in luck. A separate room has a small bar and large television with room to sit while cheering your team on.

For décor there aren’t a lot of distractions. Things are clean and simple though the friendly colorful fish in the lighted fish tank will be a hit with the kids (and maybe with those dining on their own). From the outside, the building looks not unlike a red-trimmed blockhouse. But on a stormy day or in the dark of night you’ll feel safe and protected inside. If the weather’s nice and the sun is out you might not want to isolate yourself from the outdoors. No problem. Just ask for your order to-go and whatever else you need to turn your meal into a picnic. Many locals prefer the convenience of take-out and home dining but if you’re only visiting for the day there’s some nice picnic locations. Not far up Peace Portal Way you’ll find a mini-park on the waterside of the road overlooking the bay or keep going north and find some great picnicking at the Blaine Marine Park (see article this website).

Quick efficient take-out, indoor dining with shelter from the storm, or an appetite for traditional Chinese food; just a few reasons to consider a visit to the Ocean Bay Restaurant the next time you’re in Blaine.

Directions

The restaurant is located near the south end of Blaine, about a ½ block up Third Street from its intersection with Peace Portal Way, the main north-south road through town. At this intersection you’ll see a motel and water view condos in what is otherwise a quiet residential area; turn onto Third Street and in a short distance the restaurant will be clearly visible on your right.
