Cafe Akroteri
There's a slice of the Greek Islands in downtown Bellingham, right across the street from the Leopold Hotel. It is called Café Akroteri. They have a large parking lot and it is offered to their patrons free of charge. (It's SO NICE to not have to concern yourself about a parking meter while you eat!) Should the sun ever shine, there is an outdoor area with covered tables and a patio feeling adjacent to the restaurant.

The large dining room is bright and airy, partitioned for sound, but open for light, with views of the downtown streets. The Old World art that ranges the room is highlighted by track lighting; ingeniously used to host ivy vines which also conceal cords to lamps over each table. While the main dining room is smoke free, those who choose may turn right and find a full bar that is as bright, with views of the downtown Bellingham area and with meal service throughout the day. (Light menu is served after 10 PM.) Each meal comes with lightly toasted French bread that is a joy to behold. Criminally fresh and warm, it competes with your entrée for attentions of the palate. There are meat and vegetarian entrees, as well as soups and salad for the diet conscious. The Greek Salad consist of large pieces of real vegetables; olives, tomatoes, cucumber, green onion, green pepper and feta cheese; no lettuce. You'll know you've actually eaten something.

The prices are very reasonable, certainly competitive for lunch and for dinner. Wines are available at the table, both imported and domestic.

The staff here is very friendly and steeped in Old World charm themselves. This certainly is a conducive place for meeting friends or doing business in a relaxed and informal environment.

this is my all time favorite restaurant in bellingham. I strayed and went to try that "other" greek restaurant. You know, the one you can see from the freeway :) It was awful. It was so pale in comparison to the food and service that I have always received at the Akroteri, that I will NEVER go back there. Plus, I ordered kalamari and it had legs. I just hate that. The Akroteri is the only greek restaurant worth going to in the area, as far as I am concerned.

I love Med food, so have been to many such restaurants in Canada & U.S. This place is my measure of excellence.

I have visited your restaurant on many occasions. I have found the waitstaff to be the nicest, professional and courteous people in the Bellingham service industry.
Only on one occasion did I have a waitperson that was having a bad day and I left a message with the cashier. The very next day the owner called me up to talk with me about my experience.
That was service!
He cared that I was somewhat displeased.
Overall, I find this restaurant to be one of the finest in town for ethnic meals.
