La Vie En Rose, a classy French bakery, pastry shop and caterer in downtown Bellingham, awaits your deepest cravings. Be it hearty peanut butter chocolate chip bars, chocolate eclairs, a lemon tarte, tiramisu or key lime pie, "the life in pink" café has just the fix for you.

While the bakery can attend to all of your dessert needs with a vast assortment cakes (for weddings, too), pies, tartes, cheesecakes and more -- by the slice and made to order -- La Vie En Rose is also rightly known for its fine breads and lunch menu.

Baked in the finest European tradition in owner Warren Tessler’s other shop in Anacortes, the breads and other items are transported fresh to Bellingham each morning. Croissants, the Tuscan and multigrain loaves are customers’ favorites. The bakery is also a popular stop for an espresso or cup of tea.

For lunch, La Vie En Rose offers a daily pizza on its homemade sourdough crust. The calamata olive, roasted red pepper, feta cheese and fresh basil pizza is delicious. Really, you can’t go wrong with choices like a seafood pot pie, vegetarian black bean or chicken enchiladas, sausage lasagna, casseroles and sandwiches. The café has seating inside, as well as a couple of tables outside.

La Vie En Rose has also made a name for itself in the catering business: A fine choice whether you need amazing hors d’oeuvres for 50 or dinner for the in-laws. Just don’t forget the dessert!

Without a doubt, they have the best chocolate chip cookies around. I always stop by when walking around downtown.

They have hands down the best cookies I have ever eaten! They staff is super friendly as well. There is one guy in the morning that has to be the nicest guy I have ever met! Try to the white chocolate chip cookie or the honey oatmeal. They are super delish!!

In reguards to the staff, a new manager started in 06 and if you haven't been there since, you wouldn't recognize the place. The same quality food is now coupled with great staff and amazing coffee. GIve it a shot!!

Perhaps the owner would like to train (retrain) his staff regarding customer service and what good customer service looks like. I've been in several times and waited while a personal phone call was finsihed up. Also went in search of catering info for my upcoming wedding and the staff was clueless. They did however, direct me to the Anacortes shop, but the only info on hand in Bellingham was a brochure several YEARS old. The pastry is good, assuming you can get someone to assist you.

So for my sons first b-day I ordered what I thought would be the richest, moistest cake ever....this cake was nasty. It was dry and hard like they made it a week before and it was stale. It tasted like it was made of cardboard and lard. I called to complain and was told they used only butter and sugar. Sorry but i have tasted french pastry/cake and I have never had it taste so bad----what a waste of 60 bucks.
