Old Town Cafe
Many eateries feel the need to have some hook or gimmick to draw in patrons. The only hook The Old Town Cafe seems to need is an honest approach to making good food that will appeal to everyone. Located at the northwestern end of Holly Street in downtown Bellingham, the Old Town serves up breakfasts and lunches with broad appeal daily.

The Old Town is a true local's establishment. Not too ritzy and not too earthy, the Old Town blends a warm, clean, comfortable atmosphere with a classic menu that draws heavily on all-natural products and organic produce from local providers. But the cafe doesn't shove its commitment to healthy, natural foods in your face. You probably won't even notice you're eating better, save the wholesome quality and enhanced flavor of every dish they serve.

It's the little touches, however, that really show Old Town's community focus. The owners utilize the wall space to display and sell works by local artists. They have a long communal table where you can get to know other diners. Local musicians can pop in and earn themselves a free meal for impromptu performances, provided they play for an hour, but will still get a free beverage if they only perform a couple of songs. And big kudos are in order for the extra-wide ramp between the upper and lower parlors, which makes the restaurant wheelchair friendly.

One word of warning: The Old Town Cafe is a breakfast hot spot for locals on the weekends, so on Saturdays and Sundays you can expect a 15- to 20-minute wait.

Every year, the Old Town Cafe has a FREE Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day during lunch (starts around 10:30 am and closes at 3 pm for this event). I have attended it twice. The food is delicious and you get to meet new people. Donations are accepted if you want to give. I just wanted to thank the Old Town Cafe for donating their time and food for people who are without family, poor, or homeless!

Could I get the recipe for Old Town Cafe's Garden Tofu Scramble? I'm living in Utah now and , believe me, there is nothing like it here! I get cravings for that garlicky firm tofu, with shredded carrots, onions, and cabbage, served with black beans and home fried potatoes and warm tortillas....
