Review

Over the years, the Fairhaven waterfront has developed into the transportation center of the city, with the Alaska Ferry, Greyhound terminal and Amtrak Station all gathered in the same area. The bus and train terminals are conveniently cloistered in the same building between Harris and, surprisingly enough, the train tracks along the bay.

Greyhound offers bus service from Seattle to Vancouver on route 601, with stops in Blaine, Mount Vernon and Everett. A direct link to the Greyhound site with scheduling of buses leaving Bellingham to local and nationwide destinations, click here. Fares and daily schedules are displayed after destinations have been chosen -- don’t forget to have a look at advance purchase and other special discounts.

The brick building which houses the two terminals was renovated in 1994 and has a clean, modern appearance. The wood ceiling, tile floor and large, wooden benches make for a pleasant waiting area for departures. Two windows offer information for their respective services from Greyhound and Amtrak. There is also everything you would expect, including local bus information, public payphones and taxi services. Be aware that when a train or bus arrives, there is quite a taxi rush, especially in the evening after the WTA buses no longer run. There is a small coffee shop, The Fairhaven Station, which also occupies space in the same building and offers coffee, newspapers and magazines for travelers.
