Description:
Pioneer Park is the cornerstone of the City of Ferndale's system of parks and open spaces. Purchased by the Whatcom old Settlers Association in the late 1800's, the park was deeded to the City of Ferndale in 1972. The 25 acre park, located on the banks of the Nooksack River, features a children's play area, mature cedar trees, picnic shelters, softball fields and stage.

Pioneer Park represents one of the finest collections of original pioneer log cabins and artifacts in the world. The twelve log cabins sat alone in forests and rough clearings at locations throughout Whatcom County. Over the course of several decades the cabins were moved to the park by members of the Old Settlers Association, Ferndale Heritage Society and city to save them from destruction. One of the oldest buildings in the park, the Church, is a popular location for small weddings. Each cabin serves as a museum, packed with artifacts from around Whatcom County predating World War II.

The park hosts a variety of activities throughout the year. Guided tours of the cabins are available seasonally from May 15 through September 15. It is not uncommon to see antique car shows, children's day camps and concerts in the park on any given day during the summer. The last full weekend in July features the Old Settlers Picnic, one of the oldest running special events in the state. In December, the park is transformed into a winter wonderland for the Old Fashioned Christmas. With the aroma of fresh baked bread and cedar boughs and the sound of Christmas carols filling the air, this event will definitely put you in the holiday spirit. Whether you visit for the day or an hour, Pioneer Park is a place you won't want to miss.
