House of Orient is located on Holly Street in downtown Bellingham, right next to the Horseshoe.

Description:
The House of Orient has moved up in the world. About four blocks, that is, up Holly Street to the space next to the Horseshoe on Holly just down from Railroad. The new incarnation of House of Orient is Jimmy’s Thai, named after the owner and operator, Jimmy Nguyen.

With exposed brick and hardwood floors, Jimmy’s Thai declares itself as worthy competition for the flourishing enterprises of On Rice and Busara. Elegance is the theme now and left behind are the mirror ball, karaoke machine and the huge fish tank, remnants of a former life. One would hope that what did not get left behind was the quality and value that has earned the House of Orient accolades as "Best Take-Out" from the Bellingham Weekly.

Dear readers, the prices and the portion sizes are the same. The cynic in me predicted that the upscale décor would translate to higher prices without a corresponding difference in the food but Jimmy’s is an outstanding value. The menu is much the same, Vietnamese and Thai dishes that span the gamut of vegetarian, meats, noodles, seafood, and fried rice. The great lunch combination is still available and will not disappoint the old fans of House of Orient.

Remember that when you do the take out, they pack those little boxes full so if you’re smart (or simply don’t gorge yourself on Pad Thai like I do) you will be eating out of one of those bad boys for a day and a half.

Jimmy’s Thai will remain an excellent place in downtown to get your Thai fix and to hit up for take-out when you just don’t have the time to get yourself a delicious meal. Jimmy’s has become an establishment that will now appeal to those out for business lunch or a dinner date, replete with an expanded wait staff to serve the more demanding clientele.

This place is really great...one of THE best Thai restaurants in Bellingham. Each dish is carefully prepared with authentic Thai ingredients. The location is convenient in downtown Bellingham. My boyfriend and I highly recommend this place to all our friends.

We LOVE this place! The food is fantastic! We regularly drive up from Anacortes just to go to Jimmy's. Everything we have tried is good. The curry, the fried rice with everything, the pad thai and the soup with the gigantic mussels that is brought to the table with a flame under the pot. The flavors are so good that we start craving it and just have to drive up for a fix.

I agree with the previous comment, I ordered "holy basil" at the reccomnedation of the waitstaff and imagine my dismay when it had no fresh basil, just some flecks of dried basil. Yuck! The prices were no better than On Rice or Busara, its certainly no deal.

I have not been to the new location, but did not enjoy the last. The food is not made by Thais. This would be fine if it even tasted Thai, but it does not. The pad thai seems to be made with ketchup for color. Also, the entrees do not represent the emphasis on detail in preparation or the balance of sweet, spicy, salty, and other flavors that Thai food stands for. If you like the food here, that's great, but please don't call it Thai.
