Description:
If you’re in the mood to visit one of the more unique restaurants in the Bellingham area, then Pepper Sisters should top your list. Pepper Sisters is the only restaurant that I know of in this area offering Southwest-style cuisine. What’s more, the food is consistently well-prepared and satisfying.

Southwest-style cuisine? What does that mean? Here are some of my favorites from the menu: the Blue Corn Rellenos are mild green chiles stuffed with chevre cheese and rolled in tasty blue cornmeal. If you like the idea of eating blue corn then you could also try the Blue Moon Enchiladas, made with blue corn tortillas. The Potato-Garlic Burrito, the Chicken Elote Enchilada and the Posole (a Southwestern hominy stew) are also on my list of delectable goodies at Pepper Sisters. All the meals come with Sopapillas (which is, I assume, the Southwest’s answer to puff pastry) and honey butter.

The atmosphere at Pepper Sisters is relaxed and casual. This, combined with the bright colors on the walls, the upbeat music and of course the food, make it one of my favorite places to visit on a rainy evening. For a short while I can effortlessly pretend that a change in latitude has (forgive the allusion) changed my attitude. It’s possible that others in Bellingham have the same daydream while eating at Pepper Sisters…or maybe it’s simply the good food. In any case you’ll probably have to wait for a table if you go during peak dinner hours. Don’t worry -- have a beer and some chips and know that it’ll be worth the wait.

Pepper Sisters is my favorite place to eat in Bellingham. If you want to go on a weekend, get there at 5pm to avoid an hour wait! The sopapia and salad they serve with every meal is fantastic, and their specials are great. My favorite is the goat cheese enchiladas they served one time. The service could be better, but the atmosphere and food make it worth it. It's a great value for your dollar, since it's easy to have leftovers.

My partner and I went last night with another couple. We were told that they couldn't give separate checks, and when it was time to pay, the cashier handed us a calculator and said she didn't know how to figure out the tax. Then she said she had to do something else, and left us there to figure out our own bill. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

I went last night with a group of 5 of my girlfriends. We had a little baby shower and brought a cake. Since we had 6 people they charged us an automatic 18 gratuity with just okay service. Then the kicker was charging us a dollar a plate for dessert plates since we had brought our own dessert. They also didn't have enough forks for us all to have one. Thumbs down for groups!! Our Girls Night Out Group will not be visiting here again.

We moved out of Bellingham probably 11 years ago, and we're looking forward to a visit in the next month or two. My favorite restaurant was Pepper Sisters, and I'm delighted to learn that it's still around. I think their Southwestern food beats anything I've had in Albuquerque or Santa Fe or any place else I've had Southwestern food. You go, girls!

I have not found comparable food anywhere else. I would come up from seattle to eat here. The pork n posole is excellent.

I dream of Pepper Sisters! I've had the best of the best as far as southwest foods and Pepper Sisteres is way up there. The originality of their dishes, oh my gosh. My mouth waters as I type. Hopefully I'll get to stop in soon as it's a 7 hour drive from home.

The best things on the menu? Cilantro Pesto Quesadilla and the Pinky Blue. If you can handle the spice, always order a side of the chipotle salsa. If you don't like cabbage, opt for a salad upgrade. Pay attention to the hours though, only open for dinner and closed on Mondays.

I absolutely love the idea of dinner and a nice refreshing glass of your white wine spritzer. I just visited the restaurant tonight. The service was pretty good, and the food wasn't bad. The side dishes? Hominey and pinto beans. The Beans were ok, but I do not care for Hominey. The cabbage salad was very good. The enchilada that I ordered wasn't the best I'll admit, and the food is not spicy at all like I was expecting. I'd give it a thumbs up as far as all the downtown regular restaurant stops, but definatally just an average taste.

Best value I've found in Bellingham. You won't find food this special for prices this low anywhere in town - its a treasure!

is that they are not open more often! The food is excellent and the portions generous. Unlike many restaurants where the "side dishes" are just there to make the plate look fuller, these side dishes are just as good as the entrees. You'll find yourself cleaning your plate instead of pushing some soggy frozen vegetables or tasteless bread to the side. And organic beer too!
