Description:
The Sandwich Odyssey is located on the edge of a residential neighborhood in the lettered streets right next to an abandoned gas station. You could almost pass by the place daily without noticing the blue sign with the outer space motif.
Upon entering the restaurant, the first thing you notice is the wonderful smell emanating from the kitchen. You’d swear it was Thanksgiving. That’s because owner Mirela Giaconi roasts her own turkey. To add to the homey feel, Mirela seems to know all her customers and greets them as if they were family. Like a true deli, there are a variety of meats and cheeses to choose from next to the counter. Eleven cold sandwiches and seven hot sandwiches are listed on the menu, as well as soups and daily specials. The Italian Sub is a spectacular creation of ham, salami, mozzarella and a delicious sauce. Hot sandwich choices include the Meatball Sub, and the very popular Chicken Stack, which includes grilled sliced chicken with peppers, onions and melted provolone cheese. Half-orders can be made of any of the sandwiches and even a half is almost too much food.
In the afternoons, the sun streams into the windows making the Sandwich Odyssey a great spot to get away from the office and read a paper for a little while. Picnic tables outside offer the option of a summer picnic. The sandwiches are called subs, but they are too good to be compared to other sub sandwiches in town and they are definitely worth the journey for lunch. Inspired by the movie 2001: a Space Odyssey, the owner thought the name worked well with the address, 2001 Cornwall. As is the case with restaurants in odd locations, they have to be good to survive and the Sandwich Odyssey is now entering its eighth year of business.

The guy at the front counter is sub par compared to that stunning creature they have making the sandwiches...wowsers. Her sandwiches are mighty tasty as well.

The Odyssey is an amazing place. The food is excellent and the service is fabolous. The boy who works at the front counter is a delight.

This is the ONLY sandwich place I have found in Bellingham which provides real turkey meat that actually has some taste to it. They prepare the turkey themselves instead of purchasing the embalmed, insipid turkey compressed meat found in most places. Hooray for the Sandwich Odyssey!

if you want a "real" sandwich and not one that Jared eats. you must stop at here. the turkey bacon avocado and the soups are always on my order. it is true that you are treated like family when you go there. i would tell anyone to go there.
