Description:
Fairhaven’s cityscape has changed an awful lot over the last 10 years. It seems like a large, new building has been built, or is in the process of being built every time I happen to be over on that side of town. I’m not complaining about it -- the place looks great, and I enjoy the hum and buzz of activity around it. Nevertheless, I have to admit that I do get an undeniable sense of relief when I stand in front of a Fairhaven landmark -- a place that has remained the same for a good thirty years. A place that even lots of folks from out of town can tell you about, because it’s been there so long. A place like Dos Padres restaurant.

Yes, standing on Harris Avenue in front of Dos Padres is comforting, but walking in the door is even more comforting. Aside from a few minor changes, Dos Padres looks very much the same as it did way back when I went there with friends who were then undergraduates at Western (and I refuse to relate how many decades ago that was). There is still a vast amount of Mexican artwork and curios on the walls. They still serve tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos and the famous Dos Padres taco salad. The prices, though a bit higher than they were back then, are still reasonable, especially given the generous quantity of food served up by the kitchen.

Not to be outdone, the bartenders in the cantina are as generous with the tequila in their margaritas as the cooks are with the food. This is part of the reason Dos Padres was a great favorite of my friends back in the day, and it’s another thing that hasn’t changed about the place. I haven’t polled any Western undergrads about it recently, but I’m willing to bet an Enchilada Chicken Verde and a Halibut Fish Taco that the Dos Padres Cantina is still a favorite with the students on Sehome Hill. Some things change, but some things never do.

dos padres is an enigma of social diversity, sorry you dont like the food, but honestly most people dont, its the fun ecclectic enviroment, the bartenders are some of the most cordial and quick in fairhaven. several other locations in that area are not even worth going to, you can wait 1/2 an hour for service 1 little cocktail, and then have a rude cocktailer, dos does it better.

Recently relocated to Bellingham. We tried Dos Padres when we first moved here; it has to be the worst Mexican food we have ever had. We were shocked to see that they had their salsa on the menu for sale. It was cold and tasteless. Margaritas were good but it's hard to screw those up.
