Description:
The product: Chinese food accentuated with the properties of the Kowloon and Canton regions. The place: Kowloon Garden on the Guide Meridian. The reason: There are too many to explain in one compact sentence, such as the previous ones. Hence, the breakdown:

You generally know what kinds of food you'll find at a Chinese restaurant -- they all serve chicken chow mein. So to be successful, these types of restaurants have to one up each other in as many areas as they can. Kowloon Garden does some things well that make people want to go there. First, the food is great. With the recent proliferation of grocery stores peddling a fast-food version of Chinese cuisine, it’s refreshing to know you can still go to a real Chinese restaurant. At Kowloon, you will pay about the same price, but you can bet you’ll eat a great meal and you’ll get more food then you might find elsewhere. The prices are slightly higher than some Chinese places around town, but a combination dinner still costs under $10 with tax and a tip.

You can sit down in a cozy booth, relax, drink tea and listen to an elevator-music version of Led Zeppelin’s "Tangerine." You can enjoy the primarily red interior of Kowloon Garden -- something different. You can debate with a companion whether or not the origin of graduation tassels began in China (you will see what I mean when you go there). You can get table service from a woman in a silk kimono-like blouse. You can experience all these pleasures when stopping by Kowloon Garden -- it is definitely worth a trip out the Guide.

I have been going to kowloon garden since I was 8 years old. Margarette watched me go from ordering prawns and fries while Mom ate chinese and I refused to try it, to seeing me gradually get past my childhood picky phase and ordering an actual combo meal and eating everything on my plate. She is amazing. In the 25 years since I started going there, she always knows my order and laughs at me when I try to change it up by ordering a soda or milk instead of just having tea. Shes been there through my childhood, my teen years, my first dates, my bad marriage, my mothers early death and is now watching my new husband and I introducing our baby girl to the wonderful food there. The food is fantastic, but I go there for the service. Margarette is not only our waitress, but shes been a family friend for nearly my entire life.

I did not find Kowloon Garden to be as good as the review in this web site. It was perhaps the least authentic Chinese food I've paid for at a restaurant. I thought they had opened a can of Chung King.
