Description:
It’s safe to say there aren’t a whole lot of places open past 10 p.m. in Bellingham. That is, places that aren’t filled with smoke, pinball machines and neon beer signs. Lafeen’s bakery is one of those few places. However, to describe it as a bakery would be to limit the possibilities this establishment offers.
The first thing one notices when entering Lafeen’s is the large glass counter which separates the wide-eyed children from the pastries on the other side. The array is breathtaking: gigantic fritters, maple bars, turnovers, twists and raspberry-filled, bear claw and old fashioned donuts. There are also cookies and muffins to tempt those who can get past the arsenal of donuts. If donuts aren’t your thing, Lafeen’s also offers a freezer of ice cream and frozen yogurt, as well as sundaes and milk shakes made on the spot.
To go along with all those pastries is the obligatory coffee in the diner-standard pots as well as an espresso machine. Milk is available, as is hot chocolate for the cold days. A battery of juices presents itself for the health conscious who were dragged into this den of sugar iniquity.
This is truly an eatery of the locals. Business cards plaster one section of the wall and post cards cover another. Early in the morning, the donut shop is the domain of the elderly and commuters on their way to work. During the afternoon, Lafeen’s is the territory of school children that crowd the picnic benches of the restaurant. The late night/early morning crowd at Lafeen’s tends to be the college students poring over books or the punk rock kids with no place else to go.

Growing up in Bellingham, Lafeens has always been there. After soccer games, after jumping of the cliffs at whatcom falls, whenever. The blueberry fritters are my wifes first choice and the baked apple fritters are mine. I thouhgt the ice cream was not needed but hey it's not my business

Ok, people do not chooose to go to lafeens becuase it is open late and there's no where else to go. I go to lafeens at any time of day, even if there are millions of other establishments open. I go to lafeens because I konw if I'm there for an hour at least two people I know will show up becuase it's got the greatest donuts ever and the coolest people go there. I used to go there everyday after school when I went to kulshan and I even bacame friends with some of the people who work there. Lafeens in the place to be-end of story.

We love Lafeens and we are NOT punk rock kids with nowhere else to go! Just because we always end up there late at night doesn't mean we're not good people. Lafeens rocks and if it ever left we would cry...cuz we'd have nowhere else to go!

My best girlfriends and I never pay attention to the hours posted on the door! As long as good Ol' Anthony's green SUV is in the driveway, it's golden. We love to flush the toilet becuase of the sound it makes when it goes...WOOSH! We love getting free donuts as long as we promise to call and the best thing of all is running into those people you never dreamed of wanting to see again because LAFEENS IS BY FAR THE BEST HANGOUT IN TOWN! Thanks guys you are the best!

I haden't heard of Lafeens until just a few months ago when some college friends of mine and I were out and about B'ham. We wanted somewhere to go and one the guys said he'd take us to the best place for doughnuts. He was right! For poor, starving college students like us Lafeens offers great food at a great price. Their doughnuts are heavenly...a great morning or late night snack.

Lafeen's has been the best bakery in town for years and years! My favorite place to "just happen to drive by" for incredible doughnuts.
