Description:
On the south side of Lookout Mountain is an isolated valley where marksmen and women of all skill levels go to improve their aim. The Plantation Rifle, Pistol & Trap Range is a Whatcom County Park facility which is open to the public without membership or experience requirements. Under the watchful eye of trained attendants, shooting enthusiasts can learn or practice their favorite sport from: the 300 yard high-powered rifle range, to darting clay "birds" on the skeet range, to programmable targets at the indoor pistol range.

The high power rifle & trap range is located at the end of a half-mile gravel road that switchbacks through dense forest. Inside the heated building visitors register at the office. This includes a review of the safety and range regulations. Outside there are 15 covered shooting stations equipped with special stands, seats and rifle rests. The staff places targets at various intervals from 50 to 300 yards. The trap range is located on the far left. Here, clay "birds" looking like brittle miniature Frisbees are launched from a machine operated by a remote electric switch. Shotgun enthusiasts must cope with the randomly changing angles of flight of these clay birds.

A short walk or drive to the upper facility leads to the indoor pistol and outdoor small-bore rifle ranges. The pistol range has 12 stations, each provided with a keypad control target system. Shooters can attach their own target, preset the distance desired (up to 25 yards) and then press the travel button to send the target down range. A touch of a button returns the target for closer inspection or replacement. Separate rooms for safety instruction and the central control office are isolated by a sophisticated air conditioning system providing not only comfort but also filtering & high-rate air changes. Outside, the small-bore range provides 12 covered stations. Targets can be placed on stands up to 100 yards distance.

Schedules and special events are held throughout the year and reflect changing seasonal interest. There are also classes such as family gun safety (non-shooting class), marksmanship, ammunition reloading, and women’s handgun classes. The experienced and helpful staff can provide advice and some services such as bore-siting of newly mounted scopes. Safety items such as ear and eye protection are advised and are available for purchase. The range will even rent you a pistol to try your hand at target practice. This includes a short safety course, targets and appropriate ammunition.

So whether you’re a curious first time shooter, a hunter brushing up on accuracy, a recreational marksman, or a serious competitor, visit the Plantation Range and enjoy your sport in comfort and safety.

Comments
I believe that there is only provision for shooting trap at the plantation, not skeet as stated in the Kulshan.com site.
