Drive down Woburn to Barkely Village, Pastazza is in the Northeast Corner of the mall. Description: A number of things distinguish Pastázza as a unique and classy Mediterranean restaurant. Pasta is their calling card and they proudly claim to be the first eatery to serve fresh pasta in Bellingham. In true Northwest style, a wide variety of local seafood is offered as a component of many of the dishes. The most notable distinction, however, is also the most intangible—their attention to detail. Décor at Pastázza is elegant, contemporary and unpretentious. Finished wood paneling matches wooden chairs in a dining area with high ceilings, fans slowly spinning far above. This and the low key lighting creates an atmosphere that is both simultaneously relaxing and tasteful. Light background music offers no competition to the quiet murmur of conversation. Original paintings that grace the walls are courtesy of the nearby Hamann’s Gallery. Pasta aficionados will not be disappointed with the selection of pasta dishes. Patrons are invited to mix and match pastas, sauces and seafood into custom plates. Classic pasta offerings include Angel Hair, Fettucine and Linguini as well as Fusili and others. Sauces have familiar names (Gorgonzola, Pesto, Alfredo, Fennel-Tomato) but come as exotic blends of fresh ingredients, such as the Putanseca (red peppers, olives, capers and anchovy paste). Additions can be made of a variety of meats or shellfish, including mussels, halibut or chicken. Daily specials are also offered, one example being an intriguing blend of Dungeness crab and sliced apples. A revealing fact about Pastázza is that they have installed a state-of-the-art water filtration system. This guarantees the purity of the water and prevents alkaline, chlorine or other chemicals from influencing the flavor of their pastas and beverages. This is the attention to detail that puts Pastazza in its own class, a policy of excellence that is reflected throughout the entire restaurant. Written By: Glen Berry Map In This Category
