Description:
As you look out over the coruscating waves from the Pierside Restaurant at Semiahmoo Resort, extremely full after brunch, and waxing giddy from champagne, you might decide never to leave the place. Surely you won’t be noticed hiding under the table gnawing on that extra chocolate torte as the waitstaff begin to clear away buffet items.

Brunch at Semiahmoo is a big deal and the more time you have to spend indulging, the better. Iced prawns and lobster, smoked salmon, slow roasted prime rib and eggs benedict are just some of the delicacies lining the buffet tables. But wait, there’s more: fresh-squeezed orange juice, champagne, a made-to-order omelet bar, and Belgian waffle bar, with mounds of butter, whipped cream and strawberries so prettily arranged it’s a shame to dig in. Plates are cleared after each return trip to the buffet until you are too stuffed to hobble back for more. Halibut, biscuits and gravy, hickory smoked bacon and sausages were available during my visit. And then there was more champagne.

Desserts take up an entire table. In addition to delicate miniature tortes and tarts, a chocolate raspberry cake was available, as well as a banana cream pie, fruit flan, and Black Forest cake--and then more champagne.

Though a little on the expensive side, there is a fixed price for the entire brunch and the food is worth it. Children under 5 eat free. At night, the Pierside becomes an all-you-can-eat pasta and Caesar salad bar featuring hand-prepared salads, antipasto and a cheese display with freshly baked bread. It’s best to visit on a weekend when you can relax and fully enjoy the experience.

As Semiahmoo is 30 minutes north of Bellingham, you may want to make a day of it and be sure to leave time to take a walk on the beach before heading home.
