Description:
Raspberry Ridge Golf Course is perhaps the best year-round golf course in Whatcom County. Excellent drainage makes this 9-hole, par 34 course, located between Ferndale and Lynden, playable on even the wettest days.

The 5,170-yard course is well-maintained and features a modest pro shop and restaurant, enormous greens, spectacular views of Mount Baker, open fairways and just enough sand and water hazards to create some interesting challenges and features. Among them:

To get to the first tee, you cross under Hannegan Road through a narrow tunnel just wide enough for a golf cart. Once on the tee watch out for the houses lining the left side of the fairway as their inhabitants tend to get a little angry if you happen to hook your drive into their begonias. A word of advice: If you do, drop another ball and move on.

The third green is large but has a sand trap in the middle of it. After you finish hole number four it’s back through the tunnel to play the remaining 5 holes.

Holes five and seven share a green so make sure that on the fifth you aim at the flag on the left otherwise you're looking at a 100-foot putt. Holes eight and nine share a pond that really shouldn’t come into play as it is close to the tees. Then again, if you happen to slice, hope for a good bounce off of the trees so your ball will stay dry!

Finally, make sure to avoid the sand traps on the ninth hole, as they are so deep that you may never get out again.

Raspberry Ridge plays in about two to two-and-a-half hours and is a good choice for winter play and getting back into the swing of the game for both beginning and serious golfers. It offers open fairways, forgiving greens, some interesting challenges and is a course you’ll want to play again and again.
