Description:
When Jacques Massie scaled a lofty cedar and spied Mt. Baker’s pearly peak, he and wife Vel knew precisely where the Mt. Baker Bed & Breakfast would be constructed. Three years later, the chalet style home sits in a fir-rimmed meadow beneath the mountain’s towering gaze. Visitors to the B & B now view the alpine awe from snug, quiet rooms or through thirty feet of glass over their hearty mountain breakfast.

Three modern bedrooms display a soft southwestern motif and boast mountain scenes and TVs with VCRs. The upstairs room offers guests a private entry and bath. With a cozy cove-bed and enclosed deck, the quarters beckon romance. Two comfortable rooms located downstairs share a common bath, ideal for couples vacationing together. An outdoor hot tub offers deluxe seating for the star-filled night skies.

The warmth and easy-going nature of Vel Massie guides the unfussy household spirit. Aptly anticipating the needs of her guests, she’s given a thoughtful eye toward mudded hiking boots, wet clothing and mountains of ski gear. Rooms even stand ready with thick terry robes and slip-on shoes—for the demanding rigors of hot tubbing.

Along with dishing up the morning’s breakfast burritos, ham & eggs, french toast on homemade bread or cinnamon oatmeal, Vel spoons out a day’s snowboarding lesson as well. An ardent snowboarder who began the sport six years ago, Vel gives a no-charge snowboard lesson on the mountain to all her guests! With an uncanny sense of the area, she’s become a trusted source for the daily scoop on weather, ski and boarding conditions. She even posts a daily report, vividly expressed, on her own "meteorological" web page.

Warm hospitality, local tips and snowboarding lessons are a winning combination for Mt. Baker Bed & Breakfast—a thriving endeavor that began with that innocent climb up a tree. See the Mt. Baker web site for more B & B info and links to the snow report.
