Coming from Bellingham, take Sunset Drive, heading away from town; it turns into Mt. Baker Highway. Stay on Mt. Baker Highway all the way to Milepost 33, which indicates Mt. Baker Chalet's driveway. Description: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep…" I could not help but think of Robert Frost’s words as I stepped out into the crisp Mt. Baker air. If you want to enjoy Mt. Baker and the surrounding woodlands, a great place to stay is at one of the cabins or condominiums of Mt. Baker Chalet. Located in Glacier, a mountain village about one hour from Bellingham, Mt. Baker Chalet has a wide selection of vacation homes, from small one-bedroom condos to grand cedar chalets which can sleep 10. Mt. Baker Chalet has vacation homes in Glacier's three gated communities: Snowline, Snowater and Mt. Baker Rim. Snowline and Mt. Baker Rim both offer cabins and larger chalets, while Snowater offers condos. Snowater’s condos are clean and cozy, most with dishwashers, microwaves, washers, dryers, tvs and vcrs, fireplaces and stocked wood. The cabins of Snowline and Mt. Baker Rim offer most of the same amenities, with a little more personality and variation. The architectural features vary from home to home and include A-frame design, lofts, cathedral ceilings, decks or patios, stone fireplaces or wood stoves. One of the Mt. Baker Rim cabins has a catwalk running over the living room, leading to one of the upstairs bedrooms; it also has a river view and a quiet, private ambience. If privacy is important to you, you may prefer Mt. Baker Rim, where the cabins are generally spaced further apart. The cabins at Snowline tend to be closer together, giving the community a bit of a "subdivision" feel, despite the abundance of fir trees. July and August are peak periods for Mt. Baker Chalet, as are December and January. Regardless of when you are planning your vacation, advance reservations are always a good idea, especially for some of the larger chalets. Pack extra sweaters - the temperature in Glacier is distinctly colder than in Bellingham. Written By: Tanya Perkins Map In This Category
