As the ambiguous title of Community Editor may imply, Ken Brierly wears many hats. With Kulshan.com since November 1998, Brierly, 23, writes site content, copy edits and compiles event information. Aside from working with Web-based content, his career goal is to spend several years fine-tuning his skill in journalism, before turning those comprehensive experiences toward the classroom as a college journalism professor. In terms of practical experience, he has already gained well-rounded credentials in the field.
As a product of Western Washington University’s journalism department, Brierly established himself as a solid news and feature writer. Eventually, he was hired as news editor, and later, managing editor of the campus publication, The Western Front. Instead of confinement to campus publications, Brierly branched out. He currently covers prep sports for The Bellingham Herald, and is a writer, copy editor and former contributing editor for Filter.98225, a local arts and entertainment magazine. He copy edited a non-fiction book for The Charles Press, and served as a reporter, photographer and presentation editor for The Baton, the first official publication of the National Wilderness Conference.
He is an avid sports fan and has not impressed former girlfriends with his habit of watching the same episode of Sportscenter, back-to-back. He enjoys fishing, hiking, jet skiing and mountain biking.
